In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Middle Seat.” It turns out that your neighbor on the plane/bus/train (or the person sitting at the next table at the coffee shop) is a very, very chatty tourist. Do you try to switch seats, go for a non-committal brief small talk, or make this person your new best friend?
I just had this experience on my last Southwest Airlines flight. It was actually an off-duty flight attendant who was having an awesome conversation with the guy next to her about infidelity.
It was an excruciatingly long and chatty flight. I usually, normally, well, always wear shades and earplugs/headphones while on my flights. That is the one place I don’t want to meet new people. Then again, I don’t really like meeting people when I am traveling. I like my space to be quiet, I already don’t want to be in the air in the first place. Now I have to listen to you talk about NOTHING for hours. Ugh!
So, all I did was put in my, noise-canceling headphones turned on my Kindle book and my shades and relaxed for the rest of the flight, while their chatting turned into a whisper.
Gotta love modern technology. 😉
